Our experienced staff of physical and occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists, with extensive clinical backgrounds in various therapy interventions, provides excellent care. Every patient is treated in a one-on-one session by a licensed therapist. It is our goal to get patients up and moving sooner and to engage them in functional recovery, to decrease their time in the hospital. Acute Care Therapy is the starting line but we are there for the hard part that follows in case you need it.Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation is typically a patient's introduction to the therapy experience and it is our goal to create a positive foundation in preparation for the next step of our full continuum of care.
We utilize the team approach to formulate individualized treatment plans based on input from you, your family and your physician. We work to achieve the highest level of function possible in the acute care setting, assist the physician in determining where patients should go for the next level of care after acute care and evaluate safety concerns before returning home. This next level of care may include admission and treatment to our dedicated Inpatient Rehab clinic or treatment in one of our Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers. Acute Inpatient Physical & Occupational Therapies: Johnston-WillisOn the Johnston-Willis campus, with a JCAHO-certified stroke center, our physical and occupational therapists are directly involved with the recovery of our stroke and neurological patients. Our therapists play an active role in the initial steps of our patients mobility and recovery of function after a stroke or another neurological condition. Physical Therapy at Johnston-Willis Gets Patients MovingPhysical Therapy at the Johnston-Willis Medical Center campus, consists of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and support technicians. A very diversified and innovative group, our specialty areas include therapists with extensive orthopedic, neurological, neonatal, oncology and ICU backgrounds. We focus on function with re-training to walk, assessing for assistive devices, teaching joint protection, addressing balance issues and safety awareness with transfers. Wound care services are offered on an inpatient basis.
Other clinical services rendered byWe treat a variety of wound diagnoses, including but not limited to diabetic foot ulcers, arterial/venous ulcers, pressure ulcers and wounds caused by traumatic injury. Occupational Therapy at Johnston-Willis focuses on Daily Living SkillsOccupational Therapists at Johnston-Willis Medical Center evaluate and treat patients of all ages, focusing on improving function and independence in daily living skills. Our highly skilled group of clinicians have backgrounds in neurology, orthopedics, neonatology, oncology and ICU. We issue adaptive equipment and recommend durable medical equipment to ensure easier and safer activities of daily living (ADLs). We fit patients with splints and positioners for prevention of joint deformity and to prevent contractures. Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Speech Language PathologyOur licensed speech-language pathologists provide six days of acute care coverage. The therapists use highly specialized equipment such as a modified barium sallow studies, Fiber optic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) and VitalStim Therapy. The department offers a comprehensive range of services for NICU to the geriatric populations. Our speech-language pathologists are licensed by the state of Virginia and participate in continuing education to ensure state-of-the-art knowledgeable, skills and abilities. |
